Our speakers:

Dr Lisa Szabo

Director Food Safety & CEO Food Authority

DPI Biosecurity & Food Safety, Food Safety Unit

Department of Regional NSW

I am a first generation Australian who grew up in the suburbs of Brisbane Queensland at a time when the front fence served as the tennis net, most kids rode their pushy to school, the street was a football field until someone yelled “car” and you knew all your neighbours.

Like many teenagers I had a casual job in hospitality where I learnt the importance of customer service, customer engagement, and industry innovation.

Formal learning led to university and a research and development path at a time molecular biology was shifting to applied science: DNA typing to link clinical cases to implicated food, rapid diagnosis of foodborne pathogens.

My greatest joys are working in multidisciplinary teams (essential when making policy and regulatory decisions that impact people), helping others explore and reach their potential, and building enduring relationships.
