Australian Food Science & Technology Week

Australian Food Science & Technology Week was created by AIFST to raise awareness of food science and technology and highlight the vital role food scientists and technologists play in shaping a safe, sustainable, and innovative agrifood future.

The week is open to everyone — from students and educators to professionals and the broader community — who want to learn more about the science behind our food.

This year’s theme is: What does a food scientist or technologist do?

Awareness of food science and technology as a career is often under-recognised among high school and university students, with many unaware of the diverse and impactful opportunities in the field. This year’s campaign will explore the many roles food scientists and technologists play, highlight career pathways, and demonstrate how the profession contributes to real-world change.

The week also reinforces AIFST’s role in supporting professionals across the food science and technology community — and the value of being part of a network that drives progress and innovation.

Throughout the week, we’ll spotlight key roles in the profession — showcasing how science powers the systems we all depend on. We’ll also mark World Food Safety Day (7 June), host three free, engaging webinars, and launch exciting new resources.

Free webinars during the week:

To help raise awareness and celebrate the profession, a range of social media assets will be available in the coming weeks for you to download and share during the week.
